Summary
Mr. Richard Roberts is a federal senior executive with over 40 years of IT management experience. His leadership, both for government and industry clients, is extensive and includes project management, strategic planning and telecommunications expertise. Mr. Roberts’ understanding of and connections to the federal and private sector market spaces allow him to bring great value to all of his Deep Water Point clients.
Accomplishments
Prior to joining Deep Water Point, Mr. Roberts had a long and successful career at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). As the associate CIO for Telecommunications, Service and Operation, he was responsible for all the USDA telecommunications including the current UTN Backbone Network. During his tenure, he also managed the Service Center Modernization Office which included a 5 year congressional line item appropriation from $89M annually to $250M annually that required quarterly reporting to Congress. Being known for his success with large undertakings, Mr. Roberts was tasked with the consolidation of the IT infrastructure of 3 mission areas within the USDA and with creating an organization in the CIO’s office for infrastructure support. This organization had 700 federal employees, 300 contractors and serviced over 50,000 customers within USDA and their partners. During this project, Mr. Roberts oversaw one third of the UDSA’s IT infrastructure budget.
Mr. Roberts is involved in the Industry Advisory Council and was a partner of this organization in 1999. He has received numerous achievement honors including the USDA Secretary’s Honor Award for Heroism and Emergency Response, the Government Computer News Recognition Award for Project Management, the USDA Superior and Outstanding Performance Ratings Award (both GS and SES), and the USDA Cash Award for saving the agency over $3M in contract costs.
