Summary
Mr. Mark Tanner is a senior executive with a wide range of experience in law enforcement, intelligence, and business. Following a 23 year career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), he has held director and executive level positions in small, medium, and large companies. His abilities to consistently apply initiative and innovation in multiple environments, build consensus on common goals and objectives, and execute plans to establish and grow new business areas, allow him to provide unparalleled expertise to all of his Deep Water Point clients.
Accomplishments
Mr. Tanner began his career with the FBI as a special agent. After tours of duty in Jacksonville, Charlotte, New York field offices, and FBI headquarters, he was assigned to the Phoenix Division in Arizona. There, he created a Joint Drug Intelligence Group (JDIG) by forming a team comprised of agents and analysts from the FBI, DEA, US Customs, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Phoenix PD, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, and US Military. As a result of his efforts, this highly effective team became a model for other JDIGs throughout the country. Mr. Tanner was promoted to the assistant special agent in charge (ASAC) with responsibilities for organized crime, drug, and violent crime programs and also served as the SWAT coordinator.
Mr. Tanner was selected to the Senior Executive Service to function as the FBI’s information resources manager. In this role, he established the Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) while serving as the deputy CIO. Mr. Tanner retired from the FBI as the director of the Foreign Terrorist Tracking Task Force (FTTTF). The FTTTF is a multi-agency national task force created by Homeland Security Presidential Directive #2. FTTTF is responsible for providing support to operational components of law enforcement and the intelligence community. Its mission is to keep foreign terrorists and their supporters out of the U.S. and lead to their deportation, surveillance, or prosecution.
Personal
Mr. Tanner holds an accounting degree from East Carolina University. Federal Computer Week magazine recognized and highlighted Mr. Tanner as one of the ten “new IT leaders” in the federal government, and he was a finalist for the Citigroup Smith Barney CIO of the Year Award.
