Summary

Mr. Bill Hunteman is a senior federal executive with over 40 years of experience with national and international level leadership in developing innovative cyber security concepts and programs. He has worked closely with public and private organizations to coordinate initiatives that protect the nation’s strategic infrastructure from cyber degradation and attack. Mr. Hunteman’s expertise in cyber security and organizational strategy make him an invaluable asset to all of his Deep Water Point clients.

Accomplishments

Prior to joining Deep Water Point, Mr. Hunteman served as senior advisor for cyber security at the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability. There, he led the cyber security transition for the integrated digital technologies of the Smart Grid. Earlier in his career at DOE, Mr. Hunteman held the positions of chief information security officer (CISO) and associate chief information officer for Cyber Security. His major accomplishment in these roles was to build and manage the departmental cyber security program. Mr. Hunteman achieved this success by establishing the strategy, policy, and direction necessary to provide department wide cyber security services and enable DOE missions. In addition, he was a key leader in several government wide cyber security groups and activities, including the development of the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative.   As cyber security program manager for the DOE National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), he created and implemented policies and practices for the enterprise cyber security program. This program was then successfully integrated into NNSA’s scientific, engineering, and business processes.

In his work at the Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories, Mr. Hunteman managed a variety of cyber security research and development projects.  He headed up the development of several departmental cyber security policies and national and international cyber security criteria, as well as participated in collaborative projects with Russia to improve cyber security in its nuclear weapons complex. Mr. Hunteman’s other activities in the laboratories included the design and development of high performance computer networks and supercomputer operating systems.

Personal

Mr. Hunteman holds a BS in mathematics from Central State University in Oklahoma and an MS in science electrical engineering/computer science from the University of New Mexico. He also completed graduate computer science and cyber security classes at Oregon State University and the University of New Mexico.
